Good Faith Estimate
Your right to a written estimate of expected charges under the federal No Surprises Act.
Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers must give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.
What the estimate includes
For Caladrius Therapy clients, a Good Faith Estimate typically includes:
- The expected cost of an initial clinical evaluation.
- The expected cost per session for the type and length of therapy you and your clinician are planning (for example, individual 50–60 minute, individual 45 minute, couples 60 minute, or group session).
- The anticipated frequency and duration of treatment based on your presenting concerns and your clinician’s recommended plan, with the understanding that the actual course of therapy may be longer or shorter than initially estimated.
- A diagnosis code (if available at the time of the estimate) and the service codes for the planned services.
Because the appropriate length of therapy depends on factors that emerge during treatment, the estimate is a best-faith projection rather than a fixed quote. Current self-pay rates are listed on our Rates & Insurance page.
When you’ll receive an estimate
If you do not have insurance, or you have insurance but are not planning to use it for therapy with us (sometimes called “self-pay”), you will receive a Good Faith Estimate in writing:
- On request, at any time before or during care.
- At least one business day before a scheduled service if you book at least three business days out, and at least three business days before the service if you book at least ten business days out.
- Whenever the expected charges or treatment plan change in a way that affects the estimate.
If you would like a Good Faith Estimate, you can ask your clinician at any time, or contact our intake team using the information at the bottom of this page.
If your bill is higher than the estimate
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate for an item or service, you have the right to dispute the bill through the federal Patient-Provider Dispute Resolution process. You generally must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days of the date on the original bill. There is a fee to use the dispute process. If the agency reviewing your dispute agrees with you, you will have to pay the price on your Good Faith Estimate. If the agency disagrees and the provider’s bill is upheld, you will have to pay the higher amount.
Keep a copy
Make sure to save a copy or screenshot of your Good Faith Estimate. You may need it if you decide to dispute a bill.
When the estimate does not apply
The Good Faith Estimate requirement applies to clients who are uninsured or who choose not to use insurance. If you are using insurance for your therapy with us, you will instead receive cost information through your plan’s Explanation of Benefits and other plan-specific disclosures. The estimate also does not apply to emergency services. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.
